As forum administrators, we constantly face the challenge of ensuring vital information reaches our members. Important announcements, critical guidelines, or even just really helpful posts can easily get lost in the flow of new replies, especially in active topics. This often leads to repeated questions or members missing out on crucial updates.

Before:

Our phpBB board, like many others, relied on standard pinning for entire topics. While useful for broad announcements, it didn't solve the problem within a specific discussion. We'd have a long topic about an upcoming event, and the really important details — the change in venue, the new registration deadline — would be buried on page 3 or 4. We tried bolding text, changing font colors, and even adding "[IMPORTANT UPDATE]" to post titles, but members still had to scroll, hunt, or worse, miss it entirely. We'd often see questions in subsequent posts that were clearly answered further up the topic, simply because the information wasn't easily visible.

What Changed:

We implemented the dmzx Topic Pins extension. This simple yet powerful tool allows us to pin specific posts to the very top of a topic, regardless of when they were made. Installation was straightforward, like any other extension: we uploaded the files, then enabled it via ACP → Customise → Manage extensions.

The configuration under ACP → Extensions → Topic Pins / Settings was quick:

• We made sure Enable Topic Pins was set to Yes.
• We adjusted Maximum pinned posts per topic to a suitable number.
• We also enabled Show pins block on index and configured the display of Topic Pins in the header.

Now, when an important update comes in a topic, we simply go to that specific post and use the "Pin post" option. It immediately jumps to the top, right below the topic title, clearly visible to everyone.

The Result:

Our members are now much better informed. The number of repetitive questions regarding details already posted has significantly dropped. Key announcements and updates within topics are no longer missed. The Topic Pins block on the board index and in the global header also serves as a fantastic quick-glance digest of the most important new information. It's truly enhanced the clarity and efficiency of communication on our board. We've gone from members hunting for information to having it prominently displayed where it can't be overlooked.
